Portrait Session Style & Preparation Guide
Prepared Exclusively for Clients of Wayne Hall Photography
Welcome! We are honored that you’ve chosen Wayne Hall Photography to capture these moments. Our goal is to create a seamless, enjoyable experience that results in timeless imagery. To ensure you look and feel your absolute best, please use this guide as your roadmap for preparation.
1. Wardrobe & Aesthetics
The right clothing allows your personality to take center stage. We recommend a "Classic-Contemporary" approach.
Universal Guidelines
Palette: Prioritize solid neutrals, earthy tones, or deep jewel tones. These colors provide a sophisticated backdrop for your features.
Timelessness over Trends: Select silhouettes that will remain elegant for decades to come.
Texture & Dimension: Incorporate fabrics like linen, wool, or lace. Layers (blazers, scarves, or cardigans) add visual interest without distraction.
Avoid Distractions: Please refrain from wearing bold patterns, heavy stripes, or visible brand logos, as these draw the eye away from the subject.
Special Considerations
High School Seniors: We suggest 2–3 distinct looks: one casual, one formal, and one "personality" outfit that reflects your hobbies or passions.
Gentlemen: Tailored, well-fitted clothing is essential. We recommend a fresh haircut one week prior and attention to grooming (neatly trimmed facial hair and moisturized skin).
Ladies: Consider clothing with movement, such as flowing dresses or structured separates. For makeup, a "camera-ready" natural look works best; avoid heavy glitters or SPF-heavy foundations which can cause "flashback."
2. Pre-Session Preparation
Small details make a significant difference in the final edit.
Rest & Hydration: For vibrant skin and clear eyes, prioritize sleep and hydration 48 hours before your session.
Skincare: Avoid new chemical treatments, tanning beds, or heavy sun exposure in the week leading up to your shoot.
The Details: Ensure nails are manicured or clean, as hands are often a focal point in posing.
Eyewear: If you wear glasses daily, please ensure they have an anti-reflective coating, or consider wearing frames without lenses to eliminate glare.
3. The Experience: What to Expect
My role is to guide you through a stress-free creative process.
Expert Direction: Do not worry about "knowing how to pose." I will provide clear, comfortable direction to ensure you look natural and confident.
Candid Movement: We value authentic moments. Be prepared to walk, laugh, and interact—movement creates the most genuine portraits.
Meaningful Elements: We welcome props that tell your story—whether it’s a musical instrument, a cherished pet, or professional equipment.
4. After Your Session
Post-Production: Your images will undergo a meticulous, natural retouching process. Your gallery will be ready for viewing within 1–2 weeks.
Gallery Access: You will receive a private online gallery to view, share, and select your favorite portraits.
Heirloom Quality: We offer professional-grade prints and custom-designed albums to ensure your memories live beyond the screen.
